Our sixth Polar Express Extravaganza is a not-to-be missed family event!  Travel the Library’s tracks through the story, visit with a special guest from the North Pole, work on a craft or two, enjoy the model train display, and then sip hot cocoa as you treasure this wonderful book come to life. The first train (figuratively) departs 6:30 p.m.

FAMILY NIGHT: Charlotte’s Web Story Walk

Last week we had a “TERRIFIC” time celebrating the story of “SOME PIG” and his “HUMBLE” spider friend, Charlotte with a fun story walk. Visitors had a chance to “spin” their own spider webs, create a “RADIANT” Wilbur, do a “web walk” to music, and visit the Zuckerman Farm to pet bunnies, goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, and a calf. Using Charlotte’s kind words as an example, children were encouraged to write a kind word about themselves or a friend on a paper spider, which was posted on the Library’s spiderweb. In total, we have 359 wonderful words on our wall!

Eclipse Across America 2017

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights – a total solar eclipse. This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun’s tenuous atmosphere – the corona – can be seen, will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun’s disk. (NASA)

Rockwall’s own NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, Max Corneau, will bring solar telescopes and eclipse glasses to the Rockwall County Library for a safe and fun experience that’s out of this world! Bring your families and friends to this come-and-go event, from 11:30AM to 3PM.

Cool activities and more is available online at the official NASA 2017 Total Solar Eclipse site.
